If you are one of the thousands that suffer from astigmatism, you are not alone! Astigmatism occurs when your eye is not perfectly round, which can result in distorted or blurred vision. Astigmatism is relatively common and thankfully, there are plenty of laser eye surgery options to help you regain your vision and find freedom from glasses.
If you are looking to receive treatment for astigmatism, there are two different options we recommend looking into. For any questions about either of these treatments, or any of the other laser eye surgery options we offer, don’t hesitate to reach out to our team.
LASIK Surgery
Probably the most common treatment method available, LASIK surgery is a great option for correcting astigmatism. During LASIK surgery, a small flap is created on the cornea which allows the doctor to reshape the cornea and correct the astigmatism. The entire procedure is incredibly quick with only around 20 minutes spent within the operation room. With short recovery times and an extremely high success rate, LASIK is a great option to consider that can help you reclaim your eyesight.
PRK Surgery
PRK surgery is another option that is worth looking into if you are looking to correct astigmatism. The procedure is almost identical to Custom LASIK except for one important difference—no blades! While in LASIK, the flap in the cornea is created via a small blade incision, in PRK, the surgery is entirely bladeless and conducted with lasers. While recovery is a bit longer for PRK surgery, it is also known for being the most safe and precise form of laser eye treatment available. If you tend to suffer from dry eyes, it is recommended to use moisturizing drops for several weeks or months prior to surgery and then it is advised to continue after surgery to help with the dryness that comes with laser eye surgery.
