Having surgery can be a stressful event in your life, especially when it involves your eyes. That’s why at BoydVision we take every step possible for you to feel comfortable with our procedures and answer all your questions before restoring your vision. We’re also the only laser vision correction centre where you get to meet and speak with your surgeon during your free consultation.
With this in mind, we offer an advanced PRK solution called transepithelial PRK (transPRK). This type of surgery is less invasive than traditional PRK surgery which improves our patient’s comfort.
What is traditional PRK?
The first step in PRK surgery is the removal of your corneal epithelium. This is the outermost layer of your cornea. This layer is scrubbed away with an alcohol solution, or a surgical instrument. Next, a laser precisely reshapes the curvature of your cornea, correcting your myopia, hyperopia, and/or astigmatism.
A soft contact lens bandage is placed on your eye and a new epithelium layer grows back in 4 to 5 days.
What is transepithelial PRK?
TransPRK is a less invasive option. Instead of having your epithelium scrubbed away, a laser is used to remove the tissue before your cornea is reshaped. Many patients are uncomfortable with the traditional methods used to remove the epithelium, which is why we offer this procedure..
Finding a custom solution
In addition to transPRK, all of our procedures are personalized for every patient. Our Custom PRK utilizes additional information from detailed corneal mapping, to treat a larger surface of the cornea. With this added information we are able to increase our precision when reshaping your cornea.
When you come in for your free consultation, you’ll meet Dr. Boyd and have an opportunity to ask any questions you may have, to make you feel as comfortable as possible. You will find out if you are a candidate for custom PRK or any other procedure. You can gIve us a call at 604-430-9560 or send us a message to get started.
