Hikers Shouldn’t Need to Plan their Hikes Around Day Light

Spring is right around the corner, which means that it’s almost time for avid hikers to think about what trails they want to explore this year. According to the AllTrails App, commonly used amongst hikers to navigate various routes and paths, BC has 7,527 hiking trails. That’s a lot of trails to explore if being outside and challenging yourself in nature is something you enjoy. The trails vary in difficulty and can be a great way to get some physical activity in. Did you know that walking 6,000 steps daily will help improve your health, and walking 10,000 will help you lose weight? Going on a hike is beneficial regardless of your fitness level or goal.

If you’re considering hiking this spring and summer season and you wear glasses, you might be concerned about getting your glasses scratched while exploring nature. This is a valid concern as glasses are expensive, and if you damage them while on the trail, you will still need your vision to get back. What will you do in this situation? You could consider wearing contact lenses, which seems like a better option as they are less likely to get scratched or fall off your face. Wearing contact lenses, too, has its challenges when hiking in nature.

You may want to carry an extra pair of contact lenses and lens solution on your hike, which is not ideal. You may only want to carry a minimal amount of items with you. If you need to change or replace your contacts, you’ll need clean hands to avoid getting your eyes infected. You’ll also need to ensure you have enough light if you’re still outside in the evening when putting on your contacts. It could be a struggle in the dark.

If you want a stress-free, permanent solution, consider getting Lasik eye surgery. It would free you from worrying about choosing whether to wear glasses or contacts, remembering to pack an extra pair of contacts just in case you need to swap them out, and the daily struggle of putting something on to see clearly.

LASIK is a safe, quick procedure that only takes minutes to complete. With laser eye surgery, you can have the following:

  • Improved vision: Lasik surgery is an effective way to improve farsightedness, nearsightedness, and astigmatism.
  • Long-lasting results: You may experience a stabilization period that lasts about three months right after your laser eye surgery. After that, your vision will improve permanently.
  • A quick recovery and fast results: You will notice an improvement in your vision within 24 to 48 hours of the surgery. Generally, patients can return to work or their usual activities after this.
  • A significantly reduced dependency on prescription eyewear: With LASIK, you can greatly reduce or eliminate your reliance on glasses or contact lenses. This means you can go hiking without worrying about glasses or contacts.

Laser eye surgery has many advantages if you enjoy outdoor activities such as hiking. Contact us to speak to someone about your options; we’d be happy to tell you more about the process.
