Cataract Surgery

What Is A Cataract?

Cataract is a clouding of the natural lens inside the eye, commonly due to biological aging for people after the age of 50. Depending on the stage of the cataract, individuals may experience various symptoms. In the early stage of cataract formation, patients may find themselves needing stronger glasses, or requiring brighter lights and magnifying glasses for reading. In later stages, patients can experience vision loss and other symptoms interfering with their lifestyle.

At BoydVision, we make every effort to accommodate patients’ vision correction needs and ensure the surgery is scheduled within a shorter waiting period of time.

What Is Cataract Surgery?

Cataract surgery is a standard procedure to treat the symptoms and restore vision with an artificial lens implant. The surgery can be done either privately at BoydVision’s clinic or under the provincial health plan at hospital. Only basic lens implants are covered by the BC government. For patients who are looking for more advanced treatment and technologies, BoydVision offers premium lens implants, which are not covered by the provincial health plan. The premium implants will not only correct cataracts but also an existing vision prescription, effectively correcting two problems at once.

Those choosing more advanced refractive premium implants, especially multifocal lenses, may take two to three months to reach their final visual outcome. If necessary, a follow up laser vision correction can be done at a later date, to assure the best visual result.

BoydVision’s team are always available to answer any questions our patients may have about their cataract surgery and recovery.
