Don’t Let Anxiety Prevent You From Perfect Vision

Lasik surgery is a common procedure that has helped millions of people improve their vision. Just like you, most of these people felt nervous before they picked up the phone to call for a consultation, and even more jittery in the days leading up to their operation. Our staff is specially trained to ease our patients’ anxieties. Our custom treatment options and high rates of success can help you finally say goodbye to your glasses.

Anxiety Is Normal Prior To Lasik Surgery

It’s natural to get nervous when you enter a new environment or have a unique experience. Do you remember your first day at school or a new job? What about attending an important social event or running your first meeting?

Even just reading about Lasik experiences might be giving you butterflies!

These circumstances make us nervous because they’re new and different from our usual routines. You’ll probably only need Lasik once in your entire life, so you won’t have any personal history to fall back on.

In our office, we see a lot of nervous people just like you before their operations. Afterwards, they’ll laugh about how anxious they were over such a safe and straightforward procedure.

Let’s get you a little more informed about Lasik surgery. We hope this information will help put your mind at ease.

Scared Of The Pain

Pain is a typical laser eye surgery myth. Before your operation, you’ll be given anaesthetic drops to numb your eyes. We also make sure your eyes are moist during the entire process.

During the procedure, you might feel some slight pressure around your eyes, but this is not painful and will go away quickly after your surgery has been completed.

What If Something Goes Wrong?

We understand. It’s unnerving to think about a laser being directed at your eye with the purpose of reshaping your cornea. What if there’s a malfunction with the equipment? What if I blink or look away?

The laser we use is exact. It makes continuous micro adjustments based on where you’re looking. If you look away, the laser will shut off automatically. At that point, we’ll readjust, reset, and then continue with the procedure when you’re feeling settled again.

Don’t worry about blinking during your operation. While Dr. Boyd is at work, a small device will hold your eyelid open while the drops take away your natural urge to blink.

What If It Doesn’t Work?

Lasik has been around for decades. During this time, millions of people have undergone the procedure. Lasik has one of the highest patient satisfaction rates of any elective surgery. It’s a proven operation with effective results.

Over time, your prescription may change. We cover the cost of any necessary retreatment for five years after your first surgery. Once that period ends, you can undergo retreatment at any time at a special reduced rate.

Overcoming Your Anxiety

At BoydVision, we lead our patients through a detailed prescreening process to fully understand each person’s unique needs. We’ll recommend the procedure that’s right for you, whether it’s Lasik, PRK or something else.

Before your procedure, you’ll meet with our skilled surgeon, Dr. Boyd, and have a chance to ask him any lingering questions you might have, to further put your mind at ease.

On the day of your laser eye surgery, you can ease any possible jitters by doing some simple deep breathing exercises. Simply take a long slow breath, inhaling deeply through your nose. Hold your breath for a count of three, then exhale completely through your mouth. Feel your shoulders, stomach, jaw, and arms relax. Repeat as needed!

Our staff has decades of experience in the industry, and many of them have undergone Lasik surgery themselves. Feel free to give us a call at 604-430-9560 to set up a free consultation and ask us all your questions in person. Don’t let anxiety hold you back from clear vision!
