Your candidacy for laser surgery can usually only be determined
with an assessment at an ophthalmic or optometric clinic by
qualified personnel. It entails multiple steps, but can
usually be done in 45 - 60 minutes. The basic steps include
reviewing your ocular and medical history, a full eye exam
usually with eye drops (for pupil dilation), reviewing types of
vision correction and potential benefits and risks with each of
them, and finally corneal mapping with various technology:
Pentacam and Atlas topographers and a Wavefront Aberrometer. There are many reasons why someone can be told they are not a good
candidate for laser eye surgery. It can be something as simple as
medications you are currently taking, or the reason you are taking
medications. There may be some pathology related to your eye that
makes you not a candidate. These are just a few of the things we
look for to determine someone's candidacy. The only way to know
for sure is to have a one-on-one consultation where all the
necessary tests are performed and we can discuss if laser eye
surgery is suitable for you. |
